MW CASC Community at the National Adaptation Forum

On October 25-27, 2022, the National Adaptation Forum (NAF) took place in Baltimore. Several members of the Midwest Climate Adaptation Science Center (MW CASC) community took part in the event by leading sessions and/or participating on the planning committee. 

Sessions included: 

  • Dibaginjigaadeg Anishinaabe Ezhitwaad: Lessons from the Tribal Climate Adaptation Menu
    Sara Smith, Tribal Liaison with the MW CASC and College of Menominee Nation, and Rob Croll, Climate Change Coordinator with Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) and MW CASC Consortium Leadership Team member, co-led a session on Dibaginjigaadeg Anishinaabe Ezhitwaad - A Tribal Climate Adaptation Menu. Participants discussed the creation and use of the Menu, how it has influenced their work, and what the future of adaptation science as Indigenous knowledges become more broadly accepted as a critical component of climate adaptation planning
     
  • Diverse Communication Approaches to Reach Diverse Audiences 
    Sara Smith was also a panelist in this session on innovative communication techniques that help make science useful and usable for the people who most need it.
     
  • Resilience Metrics - How States Are Quantifying Adaptation Success  
    Heidi Roop, MW CASC Capacity-Building Program Lead and Director of the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership, joined this session to discuss how states can develop resilience metrics that reflect regional priorities.
     
  • Natural Resource Management  
    Two members of the MW CASC Consortium Leadership Team – Rob Croll of GLIFWC and Kimberly Hall of the Nature Conservancy – gave presentations during this session on climate adaptation strategies and tools available to natural resource managers. It was one of the most popular sessions at the conference!
