Postdoctoral Program Lead
Ryan Bergstrom is the MW CASC Postdoctoral Program Lead. He advises the postdocs leading MW CASC synthesis projects, engages with dozens of additional postdocs working on MW CASC-funded projects, and coordinates programming to support their research and professional development.
Bergstrom is an associate professor in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He is broadly trained in physical, economic, and rural geography, as well as sustainability sciences, and sees the value in integrating these multiple perspectives in scholarship. His research interests involve the complexity of coupled social-ecological systems and the human dimensions of global change, specifically as they relate to rural areas, agriculture, natural resource extraction, and recreation and tourism. He is particularly interested in understanding how natural resource-dependent communities impact their local environment and how these impacts facilitate or hinder a transition towards sustainability.
