Institute on the Environment Postdoctoral Associate
Seth Fore is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment. His current research is focused on the socio-ecological interconnections linking human and environmental systems and how these relationships can be used to inform and advance sustainability objectives surrounding biodiversity conservation, climate resiliency, landscape multifunctionality, and renewable energy production. At the Institute on the Environment, Seth works with Jessica Hellmann and the Midwest Climate Adaptation Science Center to better understand species responses to environmental change and factors affecting the ecological resilience and climate mitigation capacity of natural ecosystems. He is also working with the PV-SuCCESS project to develop a spatial modeling approach for assessing socio-ecological tradeoffs in ecosystem services associated with solar development in the Midwest.
Prior to joining the Institute on the Environment, Seth earned a PhD. in functional ecology at the University of North Dakota. His research focused on the social drivers and ecological effects of land use decisions on ecosystem functions and services using plant functional traits. Seth earned a Master’s degree at the University of Minnesota where he explored the energetic efficiency and economic viability of small-scale renewable energy production systems using oilseed crops.
In his spare time, Seth enjoys mountain biking, running, and camping at state parks throughout MN.
