ORISE/USGS Climate Adaptation Consultant
Mariel Jones is an environmental engineer and hydrologist working with the Midwest Climate Adaption Science Center and the National Parks Service. Broadly, Mariel is interested in wetland and forest hydrology, modelling climate change impacts and adaption, and working with the public to help them gain a better understanding of climate change and how it may affect them. Mariel is currently working on finishing their PhD in Water Resources Science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, studying how snow and loss of winter are affecting Minnesota’s peatland dominated watersheds. Further back, they hold a B.S. in Engineering Science and Mathematics from Smith College. Outside of work, Mariel is passionate about science communication and writes and illustrates science comics and has embraced the Minnesota winter to become an avid curler.
