The Midwest CASC Tribal Research Experience for Undergraduates program will soon be accepting applications for its summer 2026 cohort! This 10-week program is hosted by the College of Menominee Nation's Sustainable Development Institute and is intended to help develop the next generation of Tribal climate change science professionals.

Past Tribal REU program participants have had the opportunity to:

  • Engage in climate change research at various Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin and Community departments.
  • Engage in fieldwork with several MW CASC-funded projects in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
  • Learn and develop research skills such as fieldwork, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination.
  • Apply knowledge to carry out project-related tasks, especially in relation to conservation and environmental management, Indigenous agriculture, and community relationship building.
  • Engage in community outreach initiatives.

A direct link to the REU program hosted at the College of Menominee Nation Sustainable Development Institute will be posted here when available. Until that time, you may consider applying to the Sustainable Land and Water Resources Research Experience for Undergraduates (SLAWR REU) program, a collaboration between the University of Minnesota and Salish Kootenai College. Applicants are able to check a box to be considered for both REU programs. Both programs are 10-wk summer programs for undergraduates, and the groups do an exchange in the summer to meet up and discuss their interests and projects. Visit their individual program pages to learn more.
