Institute on the Environment Postdoctoral Associate 

Amy Waananen is an ecologist with research interests in landscape ecology, plant-pollinator interactions, and adaptation. Amy has a PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior from the University of Minnesota, where she studied how native plant populations might persist amid ongoing habitat fragmentation and climate change. Amy’s prior work focused on how pollinators connect isolated patches of prairie in western Minnesota and the consequences of those connections. At the Institute on the Environment, Amy will be working with the Midwest Climate Adaptation Science Center to develop understanding around how management choices, such promoting landscape connectivity, can improve species’ abilities to shift in space or persist in place to cope with climate change. In addition, Amy will also be leading efforts to build a framework to synthesize the biophysical and sociocultural costs and benefits of solar development in the Midwest.
