MW CASC Grad Student and Postdoc Training: Diagnosing Climate Adaptation Needs

On December 14 from 2:30-4:00pm CT, the Midwest Climate Adaptation Science Center will host the first of three training sessions about the cycle of climate adaptation decision making. This session is focused on diagnosing climate adaptation needs – specifically, vulnerability assessments.

Marta Lyons is an ecologist with the Midwest CASC whose research focuses on how understanding current wildlife population and range dynamics can aid in effective conservation management for climate change adaptation. Marta provides technical assistance for US Fish and Wildlife Species Status Assessments, engages with federal, state, and tribal species working groups on wildlife vulnerability, and develops new resources to assist in adaptation planning.

Brian Metzke

Brian Metzke is the State Aquatic Ecologist for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. He strives to use academic research to evolve regulatory processes and management techniques with the goal of enhancing conservation status of aquatic life in Illinois.

Presentation Title: Climate Change Vulnerability Assessments for Aquatic Systems and Species in an Applied Setting

Ryan OConnor

Ryan O’Connor is an ecologist with the Wisconsin DNR's Natural Heritage Conservation program with over 20 years of experience in the Great Lakes region. In addition to being a member of the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts, he led and co-authored climate vulnerability assessments for more than 50 natural communities in Wisconsin.
