11:00 - 12:00 PM | Climate Adaptation in the Built EnvironmentSpeaker: Gabriel Filippelli, Indiana UniversityUrbanized areas are becoming both denser and more expansive, and in the Midwest make up the “third leg” of landscapes alongside agricultural land and undeveloped land (forests, grasslands, lakes). Cities are major players on the landscape and have a large impact on the health, movement, and adaptation of non-human organisms. This talk will describe ways that urbanized areas can be both boons and banes for climate adaptation and ecosystem health, and explore how green infrastructure practices and policies, typically considered in the context of ensuring climate resilience for people, might also be shaped to promote ecological benefits and enhance climate adaptability.
